Optional Training Session on VariQuest Visual Learning Tools
VariQuest Visual Learning Tools are designed to create visuals and manipulatives to enhance instruction and learning. Training on:
- Design Center - a computer which guides you through the creation of personalized cutouts, posters, banners, etc.
- Poster Maker - creates posters and banners in 4 sizes - 17”, 23”, 29”, and 36”
- Cutout Maker - create cutouts in a wide range of sizes - from 1” - 18”; in thousands of shapes, fonts, collections, etc. for educators
- Awards Maker - instantly creates high quality customized awards
- Cold Laminating System - laminate materials without electricity

Preregistration Required: Return 2010_Tech_Registration_Form.pdf by Thurs 3/2/10 to Michelle Sylvaria. If you have specific questions or concerns regarding this equipment, describe them on the form. We will attempt to provide answers to these concerns as time permits.
PDPs: You must be present for the entire session to get credit for 1 PDP. New PDP guidelines specify that you must document implementation of the new knowledge or skill in content specific ways. There will be at least 10 hour long workshops offered during SY 2009-2010.
Intended Audience: Open to all faculty. Teachers must complete training in order to use this equipment. Use is limited to school applications only.

This memo contains information concerning the Professional Development offering from the Massachusetts Vocational Association (MVA) for the weekend of March 12-13*-14, 2010 at the Resort and Conference Center (formerly the FOUR POINTS CONVENTION CENTER) in Hyannis, MA.
If you are interested in attending, please adhere to the following procedure:

Attendees will pay for registration (with membership) and any meals.
(Registration =$160, Lunch = $22, Dinner = $45 ) TOTAL = $227
Make your check payable to: Diman Regional - indicate MVA in MEMO area on check
Lunch & Dinner may be on your own, but Diman WILL NOT re-imburse for any off site meals.
- Lodging accommodation re-imbursement is at the Resort & Convention Center rate ONLY ($115.19) You are to make your own accommodations for lodging. (see flyer). You will be re-imbursed after the conference.
- Diman will re-imburse the cost of ONE (1) night's lodging of $115.19. If you share a room with someone else from Diman, that person is also receiving $115.19, so the cost of the room is really "0". If you wish to bring your spouse, you will have to pay the cost of one night's lodging for him/her. If one Diman faculty member pays for both nights on one credit card for two Diman faculty members sharing the same room, he/she will receive
re-imbursement for both nights = $230.38 (Save your hotel receipt!)
- Attendees must pay for the Saturday Buffet Luncheon ($22) and for the MVA Annual Banquet ($45). Attendees will be re-imbursed for these meals after the conference when "paperwork" is submitted.
Lunch & Dinner may be on your own, but Diman WILL NOT re-imburse for any off site meals.
- If attendees wish to attend the Saturday session ONLY, the driver will receive mileage re-imbursement of 120 miles x 43 cents per mile = $51.60
(This is the Mapquest distance from Diman to the Resort & Convention Center and back)
- Each attendee will receive a stipend of $150.00 for attending the Saturday Sessions per person in addition to re-imbursement costs as stipulated. Attendees must show evidence of attending a minimum of four workshops from the sessions offered.
- Diman WILL NOT pay for Sunday Golf.
- Diman will not pay for BOTH lodging & gas mileage. If you stay, you will be re-imbursed for lodging; if you travel or car pool for the Saturday sessions, the driver will be re-imbursed for mileage (120 x 43 cents = $51.60)
- You will receive your registration re-imbursement ($160), the conference re-imbursement for your meals (22 + 45 = $67), your room re-imbursement ($115.19) OR your mileage re-imbursement ($51.60) AND your stipend of $150.00 after you have shown evidence of successfully completing the MVA Professional Development offerings with your Certificates. You must also attach copies of your of hotel charge. A paper form will be created specifically for this conference for you to be re-imbursed.
- You are to fill out your own REGISTRATION form (see attached) for the MVA Conference and submit it with a check to Mrs. Maria Torres in the Dental Assisting Shop. Mrs. Torres has volunteered register faculty members interested in attending the conference. Please make your check, covering the cost of the registration ($160) and any meals, to DIMAN. (in memo area indicate MVA conference)

English Language Learner Category II Training
Diman will be offering an English Language Learner Category II Training for faculty members.
In order to take this class, you must have already completed an approved ELL Category I Class
- Those who attended the ELL Cat I class in Feb 2008 and Dec 2009 qualify!
The registration is here, and the logistics are below:
- Four (4) Saturday Classes
- February 27, March 6, April 10 and May 8
- There is NO CHARGE for Diman faculty to take this course - it will be paid for by Diman
- Each Class will be from 8:00am until 2:30pm
- All Classes will be taught here at Diman (John Santos - main instructor)
- Each participant will receive a $150 stipend per day ($600 total)
- Participants will have a choice of:
- 35 PDPs for the training (must create one content based project)
- 3 graduate credits through Cambridge College (one additional project will be required for the 3 credits)
- You must pay the $150 fee for the 3 credits up-front but you will be re-imbursed
- Participants will be expected to create a project acceptable to the DESE in your content area for PDP credit
- For those who opt for the 3 credits, you will be expected to create a second project that will be "ELL friendly"
In both cases (#7 and #8) Mr. Santos has assured me that the work load is totally "do-able" as he knows you are already working a full load here at Diman and the projects you create are implementable within your content area.

MOODLE
Diman is now set to launch a professional development in MOODLING. This professional development is really three parts:
- Part One - You can take the course for PDPs
- Part Two - You can take the course for 3 graduate credits (if applicable)
- Part three - once you have completed either part one or part two, you can develop a course and receive a stipend

Below please view the Spring course offerings for the MAVA cohort courses. Please print out a PRIOR APPROVAL form from the Diman website. The MAVA registration form and fee should be made out and given to S. DeJesus in B110 or placed in her mailbox. CLASSES start on 1/19! Email sdejesus@dimanregional.org with any questions.

- 3 Credit UG Fee $200 + $50 MAVA Fee = $250
- 3 Credit GD Fee $255 + $50 MAVA Fee = $305

- Credit Card Payment Online at Time of Registration. Credit Card Payments Cannot be Processed in Class!
- Payment by Check (1check) is Payable to MAVA at the First Class Meeting.
REGISTRATION PERIOD WILL START DECEMBER 18, 2009 AND END JANUARY 18, 2010 OR UNTIL THE CLASS IS FULL
REGISTRATION PREFRERENCE:
- All online registrations will electronically be placed on the online roster at time of submission
- Host and sponsoring school faculty will have registration preference.
- Faculty from schools not participating in the MAVA Educational Extended Campus Program will be placed on a waiting list and be added to a course roster on a space available basis.
