Every year since 1970, the Diman house-building program has provided experience for the school's shops in air conditioning, carpentry, electricity, facilities management, heating, metal fabrication, plumbing, refrigeration, ventilation and welding.

This year, we're building a house in Westport for Westport Associates, Inc.About Westport Associates:
The agency was incorporated as a non-profit in 1980, specifically to provide real homes and the supports necessary to live in the community for ten individuals who had spent a lifetime institutionalized at the Paul Dever State School for the developmentally disabled. One of the co-founders, Steven Murphy, is still active as Executive Director today. Steve, as well as the Board of Directors, shares a deep personal and professional commitment to deinstitutionalization and to the principles of normalization and personalism as well as to the provision of supports by small, local, community based organizations. As such, the agency today still only employs twenty-six staff, providing services to thirteen individuals with two homes located in Somerset, one home in Westport, and five apartments in the city of Fall River. The agency is licensed and funded by DDS, the State Department of Developmental Services, formerly DMR. It has repeatedly received state certifications with distinction and maintains a very positive reputation in its field, most notably demonstrated by its selection by Syracuse University as one of the best nationally in providing residential supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.
