Grade 9 Orientation Information

It is very important that we have correct and up-to-date biographical information while your child is a student at Diman. Please verify the biographical information on the attached page and have your child return it with any corrections or changes during his/her orientation session on August 13th, 14th, 15th, or 16th.

A new school year will soon begin. We are pleased that your child will be attending Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in August. We hope through close communication and cooperation between home and school that your child will receive the maximum benefit from the educational and vocational opportunities available at Diman.
All grade 9 incoming students are REQUIRED to participate in a ONE-DAY orientation program before the school year begins. The orientation will take place in Diman’s Auditorium beginning promptly at 8:30 a.m. and ending at approximately at 12 noon after which students will remain for Picture ID’s to be taken. This is expected to take an additional hour for all the pictures to be completed. Pictures will be taken on an alphabetical basis and the students will be released as soon as their pictures are completed. The days and dates of the ONE-DAY orientation are listed below:

*NOTE: All General Shop students are to attend the orientation on August 16, 2012.
Students will be expected to provide their own transportation on the orientation day. Parents/Guardians are not expected to participate in orientation.
The first day of school will begin at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012; dismissal will be at 2:28 p.m. daily. There will be no school on Friday, August 31, 2012. School will resume on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Students will be receiving a complete school calendar at orientation.
Beginning the first day of school, students who live beyond walking distance to the school will be provided with transportation. A list of bus routes will be available to students the day of orientation. Adjustments in the bus routes for students who live beyond a reasonable walking distance from the bus stop will be made during the first week of school.

We would like to remind parents/guardians that all grade 9 students will participate in an twelve shop exploratory program between August and December. Permanent shop placements will be made in January.
Students are assigned an Academic Locker to be used for coats and books. Students are NOT to share their lockers with another student nor should they give their combinations to another individual.
On Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. we will hold our annual “Information Night” for NEW Diman students AND their parents/guardians. Members of the Diman Administration will familiarize parents/guardians and new students with policies and goals. A question and answer session will follow. A special emphasis will be placed on the grade 9 exploratory program and how it will operate. More information about this function will be forwarded to you during the first few weeks of school.
It is normal for some students coming into a new school to be anxious for several weeks as they adjust to their new surroundings, new teachers and new routines. We want to assure you that we will do all we can to assist incoming students to adjust to their new school.
